Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council is currently carrying out a number of interventions on various roads in the municipality that will ensure important improvements in terms of circulation, accessibility and safety for both motorists and pedestrians. 

With this programme of work - some of which has already been completed and others which are still underway or yet to be started - the municipality is investing around 3.5 million euros in improving accessibility throughout the county.

The repair of EM 572, from the EN204 to Rua N. Sra. de Fátima, in Louro; the repair of EM 574, on Avenida de São Pedro, in Pedome; the paving of Rua São Cristóvão, in Pedome and Oliveira Santa Maria; the upgrading of Avenida 25 de Abril, in Oliveira Santa Maria; the construction of a new roundabout on Avenida dos Descobrimentos and the upgrading of Avenida de França, in the União de Freguesias (UF) de Famalicão e Calendário; the rectification of Rua da Ribeira (EM 510), in Castelões; the paving of Travessa de São Claúdio, in the UF of Antas and Abade Vermoim, the renovation of the pavement of Rua das Paradas, in the parish of Vilarinho das Cambas, the improvement of EM 562, from the roundabout to Rua dos Caçadores, in Nine; the improvement of the pavement in Avenidas do Altinho and N. Sra. da Conceição, in the UF of Famalicão and Calendário. Sra. da Conceição, in the UF of Arnoso and Sezures, and the straightening of the road between Rua de Santa Marta and Rua da Torre and Rua de Laborins, in Joane, are all part of this range of works promoted by the town hall.

In addition to these interventions carried out by the local authority, the municipal executive led by Mário Passos has also supported a series of works in the area of accessibility promoted by the Parish Councils.
This is the case with the widening of Rua Padre António do Xisto in Requião - 1st Phase; the paving of Rua Nova dos Bicos in Cruz; the paving of Travessa and Avenida de Cambães in Lagoa; the paving of part of Rua do Picoto in Gavião; the upgrading of the pavement in Rua da Autarquia and Rua Nova do Souto in Vermoim; the widening and construction of a parking bay in Rua do Ribeirinho, in Seide; the paving of Rua da Couta and Travessa Nova do Altinho, in the UF of Arnoso and Sezures; the paving of Rua João Alves de Sá and Travessa Clemente Lopes, in Louro; the widening of Rua das Cavadas - 1st phase, in Lousado; the paving of Rua da Picada - 1st phase, in Lousado; the paving of Rua da Autarquia and Rua Nova do Souto, in Gavião. ª fase, in Lousado; the widening and paving of Rua Fonte das Lágrimas, in Ribeirão; the paving of Rua de São Tiago and Rua do Cerco, in Ribeirão; the re-profiling of Rua Santa Cruz de Coimbra, in Oliveira Santa Maria; the upgrading of Rua Engenheiro Pinheiro Braga, in Arnoso Santa Eulália, the paving of Rua do Monte, in Bente; the paving of part of Rua das Caseiras, in Oliveira Santa Maria, the upgrading of the central divider and construction of the car park on Rua da Indústria, in Vilarinho das Cambas; the paving of Rua da Campa, Rua José Correia Machado and Rua da Escola, in Castelões; the paving of Rua da Quinta and Rua da Maruja, in Fradelos; the paving of Rua Penedo da Moura, in Mogege; the paving of Rua do Sol, Rua Sol Nascente and Travessa do Sol Nascente, in Requião; the requalification of Rua Sem Saída and Rua Padre Abílio Teixeira, in Ribeirão; the paving of part of Rua das Castanheiras in Gondifelos and the repaving of Rua das Portas and Rua do Ribeiro in Ruivães.

The mayor, Mário Passos, talks about a series of ‘very important’ interventions. ‘Small major works that will significantly improve the state of accessibility in the municipality, benefiting those who live here, those who visit us and those who work here.’

The mayor also points to this range of works as ‘a good example of the coordination that exists between the Town Hall and the Parish Councils’, which, as they prioritise, also carry out the various interventions.
