Vila Nova de Famalicão City Hall organises from August 29 to September 3, the IV Edition of JOF - Young Orchestra of Famalicão, a training/residency and short duration symphonic orchestra performance, at Casa das Artes, directed to young instrumentalists from and/or with pre-university education in Vila Nova de Famalicão. There will be 87 vacancies available, divided by string instruments (violins, violas, cellos, double basses), wind instruments (flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets, tenor trombones, bass trombone and tuba), harp and percussion instruments.
The JOF Training Course seeks to respond to the unique characteristics of the territory of Vila Nova de Famalicão, namely the existence of a strong and dynamic cultural ecosystem associated to the specialised artistic education and professional music education, composed by the following entities: CCM - Centre for Musical Culture, ArtEduca - Vila Nova de Famalicão Music Conservatory and ARTAVE - Arts Professional School of Vale do Ave.
Many of these students from the municipality of Famalicão have pursued studies and professional careers in other institutions in Portugal and throughout Europe. The JOF Internship seeks to value these young musicians, in training and professional activity in Portugal and abroad, promoting intercultural dialogue between Famalicão and its Diaspora, establishing bridges between the artistic education provided in the region and higher education. At the same time, it seeks to raise the Famalicense community's awareness to classical music, in particular to the orchestral repertoire, and to promote the binomial arts-education.
