Jorge Curval was born in 1958. From an early age, he showed a predilection for the visual arts that was definitively realised at the age of 25, when he decided he was going to be a painter. Since then and over the next 40 years, he has moved between different spheres of fine art, between form and content. Playing with the volumetry of the paintings and using the elements, earth, plaster, branches, trunks, it was natural to move on to sculpture, where iron proved to be the raw material of choice. His works show influences from movements such as pop art, classicism and surrealism, but they all converge in a unique way, through the transformation of the material on the support. Even on canvas, Jorge Curval's works gain volume, density, led lights outline the wood, pierce it, claim its space. The work, the consequence of his idea, then becomes greater than the sum of its parts.
