Conference on Essayism
Fri 02 Jun
Bernardino Machado Museum | 10 a.m.

Free entrance | Complete programme in: www.bernardinomachado.org

At a time when "systems" and "meta-narratives" have floundered, there has emerged - with their abdication and débacle - the assumption of methodical and recurrent doubt; dissent (sometimes kamikaze), fragmentary discontinuity, anti-schematism (seductively chaotic), the pleasure of deconstruction and an often deliberate and cynical opacity, as ebullient qualities of criticism; the trial and error as a method of discovery; the renunciation of dogma and the Absolute; the evaluative precedence of the creator over the creature and creation; truth as a circumstantial referent rather than an ontological correspondence; the imperative of otherness and the Others as a plank of salvation and a safe haven to welcome Robinsons Crusoe and social shipwrecks.
