Casa do Território will host the Alberto Sampaio History award ceremony

24-11-2021
The Alberto Sampaio History Prize will be awarded to António Castro Henriques, winner of the 2021 edition, on December 1, date of the birth anniversary of the historian who names it, at 15h00, at the Casa do Território, in Devesa Park.

"Midas, Coins and Markets: The Political Economy of the First Portuguese Monetary System, 1190-1250" is the title of the work presented by António Castro Henriques that the jury of the prize, constituted under the aegis of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, which is entrusted with the scientific direction of the Prize, has decided to award the distinction.

In its deliberation, the jury unanimously considered it "an excellent research essay in the monetary history of the Middle Ages, based on archival sources explored in an innovative way and which critically questions the knowledge acquired".

It should be noted that the Alberto Sampaio History Prize, initially established in 1995, aims at honouring and keeping alive the person and the work of Alberto Sampaio, promoting the development of scientific studies and research in the areas related to his legacy, particularly in the disciplines of Social and Economic History. The municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, through the Alberto Sampaio Municipal Archives, in co-organization with the municipalities of Guimarães and Braga, the Sociedade Martins Sarmento and the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, annually promotes this award.
