In the mid-19th century, Martha Jane's family follows a caravan of settlers through the American West, in search of a dream and a place to live. Along the way, her father breaks his leg and she, the eldest of six children, is forced to take the reins of the horses and lead the family to their final destination. Although frightening for a girl of her age, this gives her a sense of freedom she has never felt before. In order to better adapt to the circumstances, Martha decides to cut her hair and wear men's trousers, which will create quite a stir in the still very traditional community, who begin to see her as a calamity. This is how the unforgettable and controversial Calamity Jane emerges, with her intrepid and ingrained character, a person out of her time who marked the society of the time and became famous throughout the West.
